The neighborhood and building were deliberately chosen as it has the highest potential for the community’s accessibility. A research analysis proved that a young adult target demographic with mixed nationalities, and ethnicities made up the community. Barrow uses this knowledge to create an environment which supports the enriching experience of the East Village; growth/reviving and learning being most important.
A central service counter anchors the space to allow an organic flow throughout all spaces of the cafe. Double volume areas become the focal points of the café; easily distinguishable, double volume areas use the skylights to maximize the use of this distinctive feature of the historic building. The adjacent retail unit promotes a continuous flow of movement into the space; allowing customers to experience Barrow and vice versa. Barrow supports the goals and aspirations for the future of East Village.
